Potholers explore Gaping Gill, the largest cavern in Britain, situated in the Yorkshire Dales national park, as it opened to the public last weekend. The cavern was only open to the public for a week, allowing people to be winched from a hole in the roof and up again. The drop from the moor top to the bottom of Gaping Gill’s main chamber is 110 metres and it connects to one of the UK’s longest and most complex cave systems.
