France can take a leaf out of Canada’s pension book
I wonder why Emmanuel Macron did not consider a compromise solution in his controversial pension reforms, offering a higher pension for a later start date (Spotlight, 24 March)?
The Canada Pension Plan uses that approach: if you start collecting at the age of 60 you receive 36% less than you would starting at 65 (the “normal” retirement age), and if you wait until you’re 70 you receive 42% more than you would receive starting at 65. If you take the last starting age, you only need to live to 81 to collect more than you would starting at 65. Richard Holland Grafton, Ontario, Canada
