Psychedelic compound’s impact shown in brain scans
Scientists researching the brain on DMT, or dimethyltryptamine, a psychedelic compound found in the Amazonian drink ayahuasca, saw a profound impact, particularly in areas that are highly evolved in humans such as planning, language, memory and imagination. Using electroencephalography and functional magnetic resonance imaging, the DMT research group at Imperial College London recorded brain activity before, during and after the drug took hold. The results were published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
