Unstinting service was a lesson for the new King

I read Caroline Davies’s excellent article (The constant monarch, 16 September) with much interest. Many of us are aware of the Queen’s influential and impressive timeline but it was good to read a nuanced and informative appraisal.

World leaders and politicians must wonder how one woman could instil such warmth and affection from a country that has been turned off and turned away from its political masters. The answer is simple, her unstinting service to duty, whatever the physical cost; this was manifest when only two days before she died, she appointed her 15th prime minister and performed this task with graciousness. We will not see her like again but King Charles III has learned from her reign and will carry on where she left off, no doubt adding his own individual stamp.
