Region sizzles in record high summer temperatures
Cities and towns across southern South America have set record high temperatures as the region swelters in a historic heatwave.
“Practically all of Argentina and also neighbouring countries such as Uruguay, southern Brazil and Paraguay are experiencing the hottest days in history,” said Cindy Fernández, meteorologist at Argentina’s National Meteorological Service.
Many towns have posted their highest temperatures since records began, including in Patagonia, with some zones heating up to 45C, according to the weather service.
