Cricket’s worst qualities push youngsters away
It is quite apparent that the racism and elitism ever present in cricket can only stifle potential young talent and weaken the standard of the game (Spotlight, 12 November).
A further problem at grassroots level is the elitism displayed by senior members who continue to play in lower leagues despite their waning capabilities and quite often use junior players to “fill in” instead of shepherding their development. It is a shame the cricket establishment often frustrates to the point where young players give up the game.
