During nearly two hours of testimony to the digital, culture, media and sport select committee on 19 November, Azeem Rafiq told MPs he had faced racist comments from senior players in two spells at Yorkshire between 2008 and 2018. “The [P-word] was used constantly,” he said. “And there just seemed to be an acceptance ... from the leaders.”
In a bad week for cricket, it was revealed Rafiq sent antisemitic messages to a fellow cricketer more than a decade ago. Rafiq said: “I am ashamed of this exchange... I was 19 at the time and I hope and believe I am a different person today.”
