Global Report

In an unlikely humanitarian mission involving Leeds United and Kim Kardashian, the Afghan girls’ youth development football team landed in the UK last Thursday with the promise of a new start with the Yorkshire club. Khalida Popal, a former Afghan football star, had led months of negotiations to fly 35 girls and their relatives from Pakistan after they fled the Taliban. When US charity Tzedek Association called Kardashian while organising the special charter flight, the reality star offered to fund it.
