Cleric among five killed by police after suicide attacks
Authorities killed at least five people, including a Muslim cleric, accused of having ties to the extremist group responsible for suicide bombings in Kampala on 16 November.
Four men were killed in a shootout near the western border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo and a fifth man, a cleric named Muhammad Kirevu, was killed in “a violent confrontation” at his home outside Kampala, a police spokesperson said.
Islamic State claimed responsibility for the explosions at two locations, in which at least four civilians were killed.
