Syrian musician released after alleged links to PKK
Omar Souleyman, who has performed at festivals around the world, was released last Friday after being questioned over alleged links to Kurdish militants. The musician had been detained two days earlier over claims he had ties to the People’s Protection Units, which Turkey says is an offshoot of the Kurdistan Workers’ party (PKK), which is blacklisted by Ankara as a terrorist group. Souleyman was accused of “terrorist propaganda”, but it is not clear if charges were brought.
