Macron calls Algeria protest attack ‘unforgivable’
Emmanuel Macron has described a deadly police operation against Algerian pro-independence demonstrators in 1961 as an “unforgivable” crime.
The French president laid flowers at a bridge over the River Seine that marked a starting point for the protests during the FrancoAlgerian war of independence.
The police attack is still shrouded in official obfuscation. The death toll is disputed. Algeria has said the “massacre” claimed as many as 300 lives.
