Personality testing has been flawed for years

As a former psychologist/ consultant in executive selection, Elle Hunt’s feature had me reflecting on my experience in personality testing (Just my type, 10 September).

While I have little or no familarity with the Myers/ Briggs MBTI, I agree that the test appears to have a currency in recruitment that would have horrified the originators, as well as Carl Jung on whose theories it was based.

The personality tests I was using in the 1970s are equally flawed in terms of validity. They also make the false assumption that identified personality traits are fixed for all time.

Their use as a tool to whittle down applicants for a position at any level is foolish and unethical. Noel Bird Boreen Point, Queensland, Australia
