Indigenous women against Bolsonaro’s land plans
More than 5,000 indigenous women marched through the capital to denounce the historic assault on native lands they say is unfolding under the country’s far-right president, Jair Bolsonaro. Female representatives of more than 170 of Brazil’s 300-plus tribes gathered in Brasília in recent days to oppose highly controversial attempts to strip back indigenous land rights and open their territories to mining operations and agribusiness. Last Friday those guerreiras (warriors) demonstrated against what some placards called Bolsonaro’s “genocidal administration”.
